I've always wondered about this place when I go to the Marshalls or Ding Tea in the plaza since it seems to be busy all the time. Came here for dinner and it was $38.99/person. If you want unlimited sashimi, it's an additional $10. The servers were quick and attentive and the fish to rice ratio for the nigiris were good. I regret ordering so many rolls for the table since they all ended up tasting the same; however, now that we've tried almost all of them we'd know what to order next time ;) The garlic edamame was very small and the miso soup was overly salty. I want to go back for lunch already!
Very solid place for AYCE sushi in San Diego if you don't want to drive to Orange County! Lunch deal is great ($31 as of 12/2024) and fish quality is average. My favorites were umami oil salmon nigiri, yellowtail jalapeno nigiri, and firecracker roll (although all their rolls are quite similar with similar ingredients). You can ask for unagi eel sauce and ponzu to dip if you like your sushi saucy. No wait for a Friday 1:30pm lunch. Staff was very friendly and attentive. They were good about taking additional orders and food came out very fast! They have outdoor and indoor seating, but I can imagine that service for indoor seating may be a little more timely. Plenty of parking in the lot!
I'm a certified sushi lover and could probably eat it sushi like 2-3 times/week (not everyday =). Family hyped up this place a lot so we decided to pay a visit. As a first time visitor, I'll can still remember the experience (cause everyone remembers their first time, right? Right? ;) Service: Arrived early in the afternoon (which is basically dinner) and the place was packed! Probably around 20-30 people waiting outside. Luckily for my party, these people were in large groups and we were just a party of 3. Our wait was around 15 minutes for table to open up for us. The staff here operates like a well oiled machine. I counted like around 20-25 staff where there were like 7-8 sushi chefs "slicing and dicing" the concoctions, servers handing the orders and busboys picking up the empty plates. Placed a large order off the bat and the turnaround was like 15 minutes. All the additional orders came out pretty quick too. Very fast service considering the amount of people that day. 5 of 5 stars Food: Ordered the AYCE Dinner which is basically $40 a person. If you can finish 2 rolls at a regular sushi joint, then you will get your monies worth here and some. As a starter, I ordered my usual raw roll (Rainbow) that I would normally get. The wife ordered a roll too then my son took over! The boy probably ate comparable to like 5-6 rolls. I'll admit that I too was a glutton that day. My favorite??? The Ex-Boyfriend (no, not yours!). A nigiri style sushi topped with raw salmon over imitation crab (in lieu of rice). The Ex-BF goes down easy since there's no rice. I probably ate a good 12-15 of em on top of all the other rolls and appetizers. I've been to a lot of AYCE sushi places, but Little Sakana's offerings, combined with the service, is an easy top 3 for me. 5 of 5 stars Overall: I didn't eat sushi for like a month or two after this. The memories (which were great) that stemmed from my visit to Little Sakana reminded me of such a great experience that I lose any cravings of sushi (for a short time of course). Now I can't wait to go back. If you're in the area, and a sushi addict, this is definitely a must go. You won't regret it!
It was decent and does it's job. Just looking at the check boxes for criteria for 5 stars, it didnt disappoint. But I will be clear. It doesn't really stimulate my foody part of my brain. Reasonable quality at decent price and that's about it. It's not bad. But this place does not register for me as a top pick for culinary adventure. Think of a reasonable all you can eat sushi. And you are right.
I have gone back once since my last bad experience here and it was a little better. We were seated inside so I think that helped with the speed of service in terms of being seen and checked up on more often. We didn't do AYCE this time so we weren't waiting to order every round. They made the mistake again of serving us the AYCE small portion of the sushi rolls but it's a quick fix! The regular rolls should be one long plate with 8-12 roll pieces and not a small portion. Overall, I think due to the large crowds and often training of new staff the experience isn't consistent here. Fish quality also varies but for the most part, it's good.
Food: 10/10 The sushi tastes fresh, they had a ton of different options to choose from and a ton of different combinations Service: 10/10 The waitress was quick to check in with us even though the restaurant was very crowded Ambience: 9/10 It is a nice vibe inside and super cool that you can watch as the sushi chefs make food, but It can be a little tight to get through overall I had a really good time, the price is super reasonable for the AYCE, I definitely recommend coming and trying it out at least once if you are in san diego!
Some of the best AYCE sushi I've had in San Diego! I always come here to celebrate special occasions, and for the price (and also considering the fact that this is an AYCE spot) the sushi was super fresh and overall a great value. If you ever get Julena as your server, you're in for a great experience-- she was very attentive and made sure that we were satisfied with our meal.
We have some family over from Mexico. And they wanted to eat some sushi. So I thought an al you can eat sushi place would be good for everyone. If you come with a large group it's totally worth doing an all you can eat. You get your money's worth of sushi. We tried a lot of different kinds of sushi. Some were a big hit and some weren't. Personally the ones with cream cheese weren't my favorite. But everything we tried was good. My only problem with this place was when you order the sushi. They told make down that you got everything. We ordered a lot and only a couple of sushi orders would come to our table. And our waitress wouldn't stop by a lot. I had to go inside to ask for water refills because she only stopped by here and there. And you only get a 2 hour sit time. I felt with the amount you are spending ($250.00 for 5 people) for an all you can eat experience, she should be stopping by more often. Other than that. I would be back to this restaurant and I would sit inside instead of sitting outside.
We come here a lot and the food is always amazing and fresh. Special shout out to Ethan for incredible, attentive service. All the staff here is very friendly, polite and helpful as well.
Food was amazing, atmosphere was great, and Ethan (our server) really made our date night wonderful!
